Nirupama Shridhar, PhD, MPH

Nirupama Nini Shridhar, Ph.D., M.P.H, is a genetic epidemiologist and integrated bioethicist, and the State Genetics Coordinator at the Washington State Department of Health. 

She is passionate about finding innovative ways for the Genetic Program to be better stewards of resources, engage in more robust use of data, and form strategic partnerships that create capabilities to better serve the residents of Washington. 

Her work focuses on the use of empirical data to assess core public health functions and health equity in public health genomics, including surveillance and evaluation of public health data, assuring access to genetic services, translating evidence-based genomic research into public health practice, and assisting with Washington state’s science policy development and rule updates as a subject matter expert. 

She earned her M.P.H and her Ph.D. in Public Health Genetics from the University of Washington. 

She is an inclusion, diversity, and equity-centered public health leader and strategist who values evidence-informed interventions, and believes in the power of the community she serves – that we are stronger together than we will ever be on our own!
