Patients deserve accurate genetic or genomic test results that impact therapy and medical management decisions. Patients were interviewed by the PEW Trusts Foundation to better understand their perception on this issue. An online discussion board and a national survey evaluated patients’ perspective on receiving test results and their impressions of testing regulations.
Most patients supported the need for reform for Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs). The Verifying Accurate Leading-edge IVCT Development (VALID) Act of 2021 provides lawmakers with the ability to ensure that labs are held to higher standards.
Accuracy of the actual results delivered to healthcare providers and their patients is NOT evaluated with current regulation and accreditation standards, including CLIA and CAP.
Center for Genomic Interpretation (CGI) puts patients’ care and their health first! Everyone should do their part to ensure that test accuracy is a priority!
