“A Texas doctor pleaded guilty today for his role in a $54 million scheme to defraud Medicare by prescribing durable medical equipment and cancer genetic testing without ever seeing, speaking to, or otherwise treating patients.”

#Cancer#genetictesting was ordered for Medicare patients targeted by telemarketing campaigns and health fairs. Most of these patients had been ‘induced’ to submit to testing, despite not having clinical factors that would warrant hereditary cancer genetic testing.

#HHS#OIG investigated this case. Genetic testing and healthcare fraud costs the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services millions of dollars, which is ultimately paid by taxpayer dollars.

Every patient should have access to ACCURATE genetic testing, if appropriate. Center for Genomic Interpretation supports access to accurate testing.
